Deck Boats

A relatively more recent design innovation, think of a deck boat as a bowrider with a bow (rhymes with “cow” – and refers to the front of the boat) section that is more squared off as opposed to more pointed in a traditional bowrider.

This “squared off” bow area allows for more seating plus more floor space and knee and elbow room. In many deck boat designs, the helm (driver’s seat and instrument console) is further aft (toward the rear) than in a normal bowrider so that the bow and cockpit seating areas are almost the same size. Many deck boats provide a retractable ladder off the bow to facilitate easy on and off access if you choose to beach your boat, etc. For any given length, a deck boat usually accommodates more passengers than a bowrider and often has a deeper hull design to allow for these extra passengers.
